Why Bariatric Evaluations Work Well for the Traveling Therapist
In February of 2022, Forbes reported that “25% of all professional jobs in North America will be remote by the end of 2022” and will increase through 2023. Because remote work has become more popular than ever—and as housing prices skyrocket—more remote workers and freelancers and remote-based small business owners are choosing to forego traditional housing to travel full time. And they’re seeking out the jobs to help them achieve this goal.
Learning to conduct bariatric evaluations could be the key to unlocking the remote work traveling lifestyle. If you’re traveling in areas with limited internet capabilities, you may only have Wi-Fi a few days a week—or even a few days a month. Herein lies the perks of knowing how to do bariatric psychological evaluations. You get to choose the days you work. Especially now with self-scheduling, you have the opportunity to use marketing to set up steady referral sources so clients can schedule their own appointments on the few days a month you’ll have steady Wi-Fi.
It only takes as little as 4-6 bariatric assessments a week to potentially make enough to sustain your travels. Bariatric clients are eager to have their evaluations completed correctly and are more motivated to self-pay because of that. These evaluations usually happen in one appointment, with refer out as needed for further treatment, low acuity, and motivation.
When I first began doing bariatric evaluations, there was little in the way of resources to help me. I was burned out and in a ton of debt and turned to starting my own business as a way of digging myself out of the financial hole I felt like I was in. When I started, there were no courses or trainings around on how to do bariatric evaluations. I was completely on my own. I’ve spent the last several years building my business model from scratch, conducting over a thousands of evaluations and creating forms and templates from scratch to make my job easier. Now I want to share that knowledge with you.
My course, Learn Bariatric Assessments, is meant for therapists looking to supplement their income and ease some of the heavy mental burden that causes professional burnout. If being chained to your desk isn’t appealing and traveling more is, adding bariatric psychological evaluations to your resume may be what you’re looking for. And really, even if you’re not one for travel, this profession can help breathe new life into your therapy practice.
